My Week with Marylin -- Movie Review

My Week with Marylin

Directed by Simon Curtis

This is a touching, sympathetic portrayal of Marylin Monroe seen through the eyes of the youthful Colin Clark on the set of The Prince and the Showgirl, directed by Laurence Olivier in 1956.   I can't speak to its  faithfulness to the diaries of Colin Clark or the accuracy of its portrayal of Marylin Monroe, although it is consistent with everything I have ever read or heard about her.  Michelle Williams did a magnificent job of creating her character.  She is a very convincing Marylin Monroe.  This is a great story with interesting characters, very well acted, and superbly crafted.  The centerpiece is the character of Marylin, but Laurence Olivier is well drawn as is Colin Clark.  It also speaks to the problem of being a supremely beautiful woman, the burden of celebrity, and the nature of acting.  It's a good film to take a date to.  It is warm, honest, and full of human interest.  A nicely polished little gem.
