Love Crime -- Film Review

Love Crime
Directed by Alain Corneau

This film tries to be a murder mystery and a love triangle, but I found it contrived, manipulative, unconvincing, and rather dull.  The characters were not realistic; the relationships were superficial; the plot line was ad hoc and ultimately nonsensical.  There is not enough substance in the relationships to make it work. The author of this script didn't seem to know enough about corporate life to make the characters come to life.  This is somebody's fantasy about the corporate suite, not a convincing portrayal.  It seemed long and I started hoping that the end would come soon about halfway through it.  But I didn't leave.  There were two good actors in it that held my attention:  Ludivine Sagnier and Patrick Mille.  Both did an outstanding job with poorly written parts.  Sagnier, in particular, showed great skill and versatility.  I would like to see either or both of them in a really good film with a strong role.  This film, however, did not showcase their full potential.  It is in French with subtitles.
